Too exiting trip in Paris

Palle

Booked a trip online from a hotel near Gare de Lyon in Paris to Versailles. Got a call minutes after from Russia that since the trip was urgent (+10 hours from the time that I booked it..) they would have to see what they could do. They found a car. And what a car.. Next morning a very old, banged up, cigarette-smelling Mercedes without any taxi signs showed up. The driver looked like he had had quite a rough night. But since we needed to be in our destination on time, we got into the "cab". On the way the driver struggled hard to stay awake, pulled over to get some medications and took a couple of power naps at the traffic lights. In general a quite exiting trip through Paris' traffic going from left to right.
Looking through the other reviews here we may have been very unlucky.
On our way back we used a taxi from Paris Taxi. With a driver that was awake and even could communicate in English. The price was more or less the same.

risky driving

the car class was lower then ordered, strange jokes from the taxi driver, very risky driving, overtaking in the oncoming lane, violation of driving rules

The driver was punctual and travel went in good time.
What I did not like was that while driving he was texting as well as talking on the mobile phone several times also when the traffic was busy.
This is forbidden in many countries for good reasons.
This draws down my grading of the experience.

During out visit to Istanbul

During out visit to Istanbul, we were stopped by a policeman before boarding the van at the airport saying it is illegal. The policeman took my passport however the agent spoke to the policeman and later returned my passport. It is embarrassing and scary as we ordered the transport through the website and we assumed everything is professionally taken care.

Quite good but could be improved

We used KiwiTaxi 3 times in Russia, 2 went fine while 1 we were cheated. In Moscow the taxi driver asked us for an additional cash payment, even though we had already payed the whole amount in advance. Travellers often book in advance so they can plan their trip exactly and avoid bad surprises, so we think that KiwiTaxi should protect customers from this kind of behaviour.

Disappointing that on arrival there was no driver holding a name card as expected and promised on the booking details. The agent was outside the airport gate and communicated with me by phone and gave me directions to go to the correct gate.
On return there were no problems except for a few minutes delay as the driver went to the wrong hotel.
No issues with the drivers.

We chose three times the service...2 without problems and very satisfied but on the other hand, we had a problem with the other one.
